There were 17 members that attended.
Dr Mundy is willing to come to talk to us about the cancer process etc. if you have any suggestions for topics or questions you want answered please let us know at the next meeting.
There is a series entitled "The Truth about Cancer" it is comprised of 9 episodes of one hour each. The first episode is 2 hours long. It consists of interviews with over 35 Doctors, Researchers, and authors etc in 20 different countries. In several episodes, it also outlines the most advanced alternative treatments. It is airing free right now. Google "The Truth About Cancer" 2015. Please note that alternative treatments are not meant to take place of standard treatment recommended to you by your medical team.
Tracy Parker our guest speaker, mentioned a book that is useful - it is titled My Voice and can be picked up online - Google "My Voice" booklet BC Petrina Wing has them and can be picked up at Hospice. If anyone has ever thought about what you want for your last days whenever that might be, this is a very good booklet to have.
What constitutes "Advanced Care Planning" puts you more in control of your destiny.
With legal and financial (not health care) issues they have to be signed by a Notary to be recognized.
A person who has a long term capacity, at some point the assets will be frozen to protect them, so the spouse really needs to have a power of attorney.
The website "Dying with Dignity" has some very good information on Advanced Directives.
Tracy brought some very good handouts which if you would like to have them and you weren't at the group you can pick them up at her office.
Sunshine Coast Hospice sponsored a panel presentation called "What you need to know about dying". Go to www.coasthospice.com for information.
The next Ruby Slipper Support Group will meet November 7th 1:00 at Rockwood Lodge.
